4000 years ago the Egyptians and Persians mastered the art of fusing glass. The knowledge they gained while working with this complex and unpredictable material inspires the creative work of Sandie Charlton and her sons, John and Chad.
Designing glass applications for more than twenty-five years, Sandie, John, and Chad have revived the ancient art of combining glass and metal. The individually, hand-cut copper pieces are fused between layers of glass to form functional pieces of art. The 1500-degree kiln turns the cooper into unique, fiery images. The result of the eighteen-hour heating and cooling cycle is a durable, yet beautiful, piece of glass art.
